Pentecost

' Pentecost (Greek: Πεντηκοστή [ἡμέρα], Pentēkostē [hēmera], "the Fiftieth [day]") is a prominent feast in the calendar of Ancient Israel celebrating the giving of the Law on Sinai, and also later in the Christian liturgical year commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the remaining eleven disciples of Christ (Judas had hanged himself) after the Resurrection of Jesus.[1] The feast is also called Whit Sunday, Whitsun, or Whit, especially in the United Kingdom, where the following Monday was traditionally a holiday. Pentecost is celebrated seven weeks (50 days) after Easter Sunday, hence its name.[2] Pentecost falls on the tenth day after Ascension Thursday.

Among Christians, Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Twelve apostles and other followers of Jesus as described in the Acts of the Apostles 2:1-31.[3] For this reason, Pentecost is sometimes described as the "Birthday of the Church."

The Pentecostal movement of Christianity derives its name from the New Testament event.'

In one of his sermons Pastor Joseph Prince emphasizes that on the first Pentecost when the Law was given at Mount Sinai, three thousand people died(Exodus 32:28).  On Pentecost following Christ's Resurrection, the Holy Spirt descended upon the Apostles and that day three thousand souls were saved.  Hallelujah!

King of the Jews

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem  and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”  -- Matthew 2:1

Who were these Magi from the East, and what exactly did they see in the sky that told them a King of the Jews had been born?
